Word of the year

I am a big one for lists – I love making to-do lists (but necessarily the doing!) but rarely set goals. All along, I have been taking work as it comes without making ambitious and aggressive plans. No longer (I hope). 2012 is the year of the ambitious plans.

So as a first step, I introduce to you, erm, myself, my word of the year. I got this idea after reading Chryselle’s blog post about her word – or lack of one for this year (last year, her word was RISK).

I have given this serious thought and my word for 2012: STRETCH.

Stretch? What I want is to push myself beyond my comfort zone – and not just in writing. I want to be able to see, do, experience and write about new things through the year. I like all the associations with the word: to extend a hand, to bend to accommodate, being flexible, to broaden one’s horizons, to expand and grow… I began the year literally stretching myself on a winter trek in the Himalayas – so now I am ready for any challenge the year can throw my way. Bring them on – I am all set to stretch!
