Sarah, these are the local equivalents of weights – they are into weights training before they start the actual wrestling!
you know, i have been to varanasi twice… once when i was in school, and later, with my in laws… and neither time did we see any of the akhadas… or actually go anywhere except temples… next time i go there, am sure i will give all the temples a miss and head out to explore the city by myself, leaving everyone else behind!
Anu, yes, go out and explore the ghats and the narrow market lanes – what a chaotic, colourful experience!
