My stay at lebua Corbett

My first experience with the lebua league of hospitality was at Lucknow a couple of years ago. I was so impressed that when I heard about their new property in Corbett, I couldn’t wait to visit. Towards the end of December, my husband and I finally got a chance to travel all the way up from Bangalore to Corbett, warmly hosted by lebua.

As we left the chaos of Ramnagar town and then all the resorts lining the main road, I was relieved to know that we were headed to some place quiet and calm, far away from the circus. We soon took a turn off the main road, driving a bumpy and rough track up, up towards the resort. As soon as we pulled up into the driveway, I knew that I was in for a happy green vacation.

Lebua is located on the edge of the Corbett forest, with oodles of open space and surrounded by the hills. The first thing I came to know when I signed in at the reception was the AQI (Air Quality Index) of the location – 20. Although my own city of Bangalore (170) was not as bad as Delhi (over 400), this meant unimaginably pure air.

Our room came with a private balcony, floor to ceiling glass windows and plenty of space, with a welcome that included this favourite photograph of the two of us. And as if the meals were not filling enough, there was also a constant supply of baal mithai, a Kumaoni sweet, on the coffee table.

GM Adarsh Nair and his team went out of their way to meet our requests, mostly surpassing our expectations and addressing our needs even before we expressed it. This included a last minute safari into the forest, an impromptu massage session at the spa which was still not fully functional at the time of our visit and sampling local vegetarian food.

Mealtimes were the most special at lebua, with each lunch or dinner a unique experience curated carefully by the dapper gentleman Faisal Nafees, country manager for lebua, ably assisted by every single member of his team. Think brunch in the woods, dinner next to a bonfire in the garden, a private breakfast on the balcony of our room, and so on.

We went for walks in the nearby village and the adjoining hilly-forest area, got birdwatching tips from the resident naturalist and most memorably, had chai by the banks of the Kosi river at sunrise. And some of my best moments were the ones with the four beautiful horse at the paddock. Lebua never fails to delight me. And I look forward to being back soon.
