Off to Istanbul

After months of knowing and trying hard not to think about it all the time, I am off to Turkey tomorrow. A few days in Istanbul (a couple of days at the conference which the trip is all about) and a couple of days out of Istanbul…

Try hard not to miss me. And till I am back, with stories and photos, here are my latest Itchy Feet stories which you my have missed (and if you have, why have you?) – Celebrating Culture (Hindu, October 19), Shifting Shapes (HT Cafe, September 25).

Have fun!

  1. Try Haci Abdallah, 3 lanes down Istiklal from Taksem Square. Sunset from the Galata Tower, followed by Turkish coffee in the restaurant up there as the lights come up around the Golden Horn. Take in the atmosphere in the Cicek Pasaj, where they sing in the bars after a Besiktas win.

Coffee by the water in a cafe at Ortakoy. Maybe some music and a belly dance over on the Asian side, that place near Iskander.

Or just walk the streets at night as entire families take the air together.

I never thought I’d find a city with more atmosphere than Paris. Until last July.

    J.A.P.
