Oye Bubbly – the music video?

The new Pepsi ad – Oye Bubbly – I was wondering which bloggers (s) were going to puke first… Anita says the ad is absolutely horrific…. and Twilight Fairy says Yeh Dil Maange No More

When the mighty fall, they sure fall hard. I always believed Pepsi (and JWT?) had their finger pulse on their audience in a way that few marketing companies did… With a history of campaigns like Yeh Dil Maange More and Nothing Official About It, Oye Bubbly comes as a nasty shock.

Forget the gross imagery…. Bubbly?? Uh? Apparently the insight behind this ad (which every single consumer / viewer has missed so far) is based on Yeh Pyaas Hai Badi… but thirsty navels?!

Here is a gem from pepsico… The 60-second ad articulates the philosophy behind Pepsi’s popular tagline Yeh Pyaas Hai Badi and comes from the insight that the thirst for a Pepsi is so intense that even inanimate objects lust for it, says Businessline. This article also says that more activities are planned around the Oye Bubbly theme – including a music video!

Economic Times says As part of the Oey Bubbly campaign, Pepsi is bringing out a music video titled ‘Oey Bubbly! -the Bubbly Grind’. The music video features host of Bollywood and cricket stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Irfaan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Kaif

I can only say – Thank God I have missed this video so far… And I hope it stays missed…

    And I am not sure you will miss it.:) the video is not just aired on MTV/V , it also is being aired on general entertainment channels.
    And if you miss it; there are snippets of the ad (video)that are aired in between matches and programmes πŸ™‚

  3. I didnt miss the ‘yeh pyaas hai badee’ logic behind it.. (didnt mention it though) but it’s sickening anyway to twist it so, to derive another connotation out of it.. a whole music video! junta wont be able to take it..

  4. TF, seriously, this is stretching the ‘thirst’ insight to unacceptable limits. the ad is really gross and meaningless…
    SWB, JWT is the agency for Pepsi, so I assume they have done this ad too?

    and they are in trouble already, i think… for using a voice-over that sounded like sehwag (and he’s the coke-boy)..

    but i don’t really get all the hulla behind it all? there are good ads and then there are the bad ones. and frankly this one is not half as bad as what coke was upto before they struck the ‘thanda matlab coca cola’ jackpot…

    they’ve already changed the opening line.. the girls crooning, “…be my lover pepsi”, instead of ‘bubbly’ and i am still trying to figure out what exactly necessiated this single edit…

  6. come on Harneet, there are bad ads and then there are the truly terrible ads. like this bubbly ad. the navel-mouths were the grossest thing in a long time… and this from pepsi is unacceptable….

  8. this add… aiyooo chanceeee.. i use to cal my GF bubblyy.. dat to i use to sms oiye followd with bubbly abt 5 months later that dis ad came.. me me.. no words to xpresss ..yeh dil mangee moooooooooooooooore…. πŸ™‚
