Hover over the logo on google and it says Happy Birthday Louis Braille!
And here is a small piece I found – on google of course – on Louis Braille…
Charukesi Ramadurai muses on life, language, books, gender issues, advertising and why she does not blog more often…

Both the logo, and the story that you linked to, thrilled me to bits. Thanks a ton!
There is a reason Google is as well-regarded as it is. So simple, therefore effective.
Nice to see a blog bout this. And I did look up the braille alphabets and spotted all the characters but could not understand why there is a dot at the beginning.Any insights?
i thought it is ‘google’ in braille.
Yes it is, but there is a dot preceding the 4-square pattern that represents the G of google and that was what I was referring to.
Shruthi, you are welcome 🙂 I loved it the moment I saw it on google…
Adity, yup, simple and effective…
gupta, Arun, sorry, I have no clue… gupta, I have not seen braille alphabets – where did you look them up?
Maybe the dot at the start means capital ‘G’. Just a guess…
This is where I found those alphabets.
